UREAPLASMA & MYCOPLASMA

Ureaplasma and Mycoplasma are tiny organisms that live inside your body and generally cause symptoms at all.  However,  stress, fatigue and a number of other causes can cause an imbalance which means the bacteria multiply rapidly, leading to an inflammation of the urethra. This is known as Non-Specific Urethritis (NSU.) Mycoplasma and Ureaplasma bacteria are estimated to be present in over 50% of sexually active individuals,  and can be transmitted via sexual contact.

People may have no symptoms at all, but where symptoms are apparent, they are entirely similar to those of urethritis; pain or a burning sensation upon urination (dysuria), a white/cloudy discharge and a feeling that you need to pass urine frequently. Indeed both bacteria can lead to urethritis and possibly pelvic inflammatory disease.

Ureaplasma and Mycoplasma are detected through a straightforward urine test, and treatment is through antibiotics.
