CARE QUALITY COMMISSION
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the independent regulator of health and social care in England. It regulates the care provided by private healthcare companies, as well as the NHS, local authorities and voluntary organisations. The CQC's stated aim is to make sure better care is provided for everyone - in hospitals, care homes and in people's own homes.

The CQC regularly inspects and audits services to ensure they meet stringent standards, and all Medicentres are so approved. 'Making a Difference' explains the CQC's role in modern healthcare, and a copy is available here (PDF format).

LINK-UP
Link-up is the supplier qualification scheme for the UK rail industry, and as well as auditing and approving suppliers for heavy maintenance and construction, they also approve medical and occupational health services for the main rail, light rail, tramways, underground and channel tunnel services.

"Gaining Link-Up qualification is an achievement of which any company should e proud, and one that is recognised throughout the rail industry."

Medicentre are approved by link up for the provision of such services.

Oil and Gas UK is 'the voice of the Offshore Industry': the leading representative body that speaks for the whole sector and whose membership comprises just about all companies and organisations active on the UK continental shelf.

The often harsh environment and physical demands involved in offshore work mean that health and safety is at the very top of the agenda, and Oil & Gas UK are at the forefront of policy development and the provision of advice. This includes a list of medical facilities who meet the standards required to provide medicals for offshore personnel. Our Liverpool Street, Lower Marsh Occupational Health Centre, Paddington and Victoria Medicentres are all approved by Oil & Gas UK.

The name CIGNA has become synonymous with best practice within the field of healthcare and group life insurance. The CIGNA Corporation and its subsidiaries constitute one of the largest publicly owned employee benefits organisations in the United States and is one of the few health benefits companies with a comprehensive portfolio of health, pharmacy, behavioural, dental, disability, life, accident and international businesses.  Medicentre are pleased to be a CIGNA partner and to provide services to CIGNA members.

SITE ACCESSIBILITY

Many users with disabilities find websites difficult or even impossible to use because of the way they are designed and published. At the same time, a web site that is designed solely with users with some impairment in mind will appear stark and clumsy to the majority visitors.

Medicentre works using the standards specified by the World Wide Web Consortium, (W3C)  as a general guideline. These standards have been generally accepted both as good practice and as a basis for legislation such as those elements of the UK Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) dealing with web site design. (The link provided actually goes to the RNIB site which provides a very good overview of the legislation.)

This requires that the needs of those with disabilities should be anticipated and incorporated into web site design. Although this is a legal requirement, it is currently very largely ignored by web publishers.

WHAT WE ARE IMPLEMENTING

1. The 'Beta' of this site was launched in early May 2010. Most screens already adhere to W3C standards, and those that do not are being addressed in terms of ‘Reasonable Adjustment’ as defined by the DDA.
2. There are certain functions and elements which, according to our interpretation, do not meet the
technical letter of the standards, yet which we wish to retain; specifically integration with our YouTube Channel and two programming algorhythms used in our navigation system. Neither have any effect whatsoever on the user experience.

3. On certain key pages, we will also be implementing either a full or summarised audio version accessible by either a speaker icon or hot access key during 2011.

Should you have any questions or input on this subject, please contact our web team leader, Stephen Grant.
